Thanks for checking out my portfolio site!
I first launched BannonPuckett.com back in 2009, and I've made several updates to it over the years. With a complete redesign of the look and feel and content as of Fall 2020, this is the most substantial refresh I've ever tackled.
For this most recent iteration, I decided I wanted my header image to include as many logos of the companies I've worked with as possible. I've been fortunate enough to have worked with some widely recognizable brands - and for some small but mighty "mom and pop shops," too. I feel the mix of logos at the top helps instantly convey my breadth of experience, as well as the wide range of employers I fit with.
I believe even the most "professional" professionals and companies should embrace at least a touch of whimsy, but not overdo it. So I've written copy and created design elements in pursuit of striking the right balance of showing all I can offer an employer or client, and also being true to myself. When coming up with a navigation scheme, I landed on a way to riff on the "who / what / when / where / why / and sometimes how" motif. And this time around, in addition to my career portfolio pieces, it made sense to me to add some examples of fun projects that fuel my adventures and creativity when I'm not "on the clock." I take my job and what I help produce very seriously, but I'm also a bit of a goofball.
As for choosing new "brand" colors, I had just ordered some Converse sneakers in a limited-edition seasonal color of cactus flower. When they were delivered, the shoes reminded me how much I love this purplish-pink color in nature when I've hiked or camped in the Southwest and Rocky Mountains. It also tends to be the color of my favorite treat along those travels: anything huckleberry, from twizzlers to margaritas to pancake syrup.
Combined with the other color I love seeing in nature - blue, from the big open skies of Colorado to the otherworldly glacial lakes of Canada to the prismatic thermal pools of Yellowstone - I think this new palette is a pretty good reflection of who I am, without me having to say a word.
Plus, one way my mom entertains herself in retirement is buying me clothes to match my blue eyes. So when you groggily get dressed for a Zoom job interview one morning, and only later realize your blue-gray cardigan and pink-purple polo match your brand colors exactly, you know "integrated marketing" works - even on yourself!
