brochures

Beyond all of the subscriber "catalog-style" brochures I wrote for the Kennedy Center, I also developed copy for hundreds of collateral pieces promoting individual events and special celebrations.

These brochures typically dove a lot deeper into the attractions with all sorts of storytelling devices befitting of the project: "picture book" narratives, performer biographies, director quotes, character profiles, media reviews, maps, timelines, histories, trivia, and much more.

Royal Shakespeare Company

In this humorous brochure, I mimicked the rhyming couplets in Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales to create colorful profiles of the various characters. (It's also the only time I've ever been able to justify using the word "crap" in a professional marketing piece!)

Sleeping Beauty: A Gothic Romance

The best way to entice audiences to experience this unique dance/theater interpretation of the classic tale was to create a "promotional storybook" for it. The project posed many challenges: a bizarre vampire twist, a somewhat convoluted time-traveling plot, and limited photos available to tell the story in a clear way.

Little Dancer

The brochure for this world premiere pre-Broadway production offered readers a sneak peek at the story and creative team by weaving together flashback narrative, character sketches, song excerpts, "did you know" factoids, and art from the National Gallery.

Soundtracks: Music & Film

The brochure for this exploration of film scores included historical and aesthetic overviews, composer biographies, classic movie synopses, and more all signed off by artistic director John Williams.

Year of the Blues

This fold-out brochure included an elaborate narrative history of the blues that also needed to integrate each artist in the festival. I researched the art form in-depth in order to write about it accurately and creatively.

Arts Along the Gulf Coast Highway

A large fold-out map seemed tailor-made for the brochure spotlighting the roster of eclectic artists performing in this free Kennedy Center celebration.
